The warm traces of handwork create a gentle pattern with a soft, hazy texture. We spoke to Matsumoto-san, the ceramicist.
After studying dyeing and weaving at an art college in Kyoto, Matsumoto-san worked in Kyoto painting kimonos and designing Japanese goods. After marrying into Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, a pottery production area, she learned techniques while helping out with the family pottery business.
"Maruban Koujou 丸伴工場 (Maruban Ceramics Factory) " was once the name of a pottery factory. It is now closed, but the owner liked the name so much that she decided to use it as her shop name.
The pieces are made using the Tatara method, hand-forming, and other methods. Each piece feels comfortable in the hand and warms the heart. In the warmth of the clay, gentle patterns are drawn all around, and no two pieces are the same.
" I want to create tableware that will make people smile when they use it," says Matsumoto san.
These dishes will naturally bring a smile to your face and make your everyday moments even more enjoyable.
