Ms. Taki Tomoda, who works in Kyoto as "Atelier Taki", creates soft and gentle-looking tableware while incorporating tradition. We asked her about her work.
After graduating from the design department of the training school, she worked as a painter at a pottery studio in Higashiyama, Kyoto for about five years. After that, she studied again in the formative course at the training school and became independent. Now, she thinks about all the processes from design to shaping and painting, and creates each process carefully by hand.
Ms. Tomoda says she has loved beautiful patterns since she was a child. She finds "wonderful things" in her daily life, such as the fixtures of temples, the cobblestones in the streets, and picture books she picks up, and stores them in her heart. The "wonderful things" she finds with her sensibility in everyday scenes are used in her work.
By using both overglaze and underglaze painting, a three-dimensional effect is created within a soft atmosphere, creating an enchanting feel.
The captivatingly delicate and elegant crazing is achieved by firing the piece three times, including bisque firing. This is a piece that can only be created through the time and effort that goes into making it.
She creates pottery every day with the hope that it will make everyday life a little more enjoyable and bring a little happiness just by having it.
These elegant dishes, without being too fussy, will add a touch of quality to your everyday moments.
