A mix of nostalgia and newness

Stoneware was born from the loess that lay dormant in the land of Mino. In the past, when white clay was considered the best, pottery was cultivated with various decorations layered on top of each other. While inheriting the techniques of stoneware, we have carefully woven it into the present-day form that gently fits into everyday life.

Adachino Potari's Finger-painted Sarasa Blue Mug

The retro Art Deco painting is dignified and somehow exudes a warmth and charm. The soft, gentle color is the result of the yuzu skin glaze. The delicate unevenness, reminiscent of yuzu peel, softly reflects the light, giving the entire piece depth and warmth.

The unique decorations of handmade work enhance the food like a picture frame, transforming an ordinary dish into something a little more special. The "yubiga" (finger-drawn) petal patterns, drawn with the fingertips using cosmetic clay, have a soft, swaying quality that cannot be expressed with a brush, and the plump lines created using the itchin technique add beautiful shadows and rhythm.

Whether it's a slow morning toast or a quick break before dusk, the design is effortless yet beautiful. The texture you feel in your hand every time you use it gives you a sense of comfortable richness. It's sure to bring you moments of relaxation and peace of mind in the midst of your busy days.

Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, size, weight, thickness, uneven glaze, glaze buildup, and subtle differences in the design. Also, some pieces may have differences in the amount of glaze applied, fading, pinholes, or iron powder (black spots), but this does not affect their usability. Please enjoy the unique features that only a handmade piece can offer. While you cannot choose which item you will receive, we hope you will look forward to receiving it. If you have any concerns, please contact us before shipping and we will email you a photo.

Adachino pottery | ADACHI Akane
Born and raised in Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture
2004 Graduated from Tokyo Kasei University, Faculty of Home Economics, Department of Fine Arts
2006 Graduated from Tajimi City Design Institute
From 2006

While working at a Mino ware manufacturer, an art museum, and a trading company, he explored the possibilities of creating his own pottery.
Upon graduating from the Design Institute, he was invited to join the Stoneware Research Society.
He became fascinated with the unique colors of stoneware and the depth of decoration using engobe clay, and continues to this day

Stoneware
Stoneware is pottery made from unused yellow clay mined in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture in the early Showa period. At the time, white clay was considered to be of high quality, so the yellow clay that was mined in large quantities remained unused. However, through research and development carried out jointly by potteries and the Gifu Prefectural Ceramics Testing Center, the manufacturing and decorative techniques were perfected around 1935. By applying a white decorative clay over a soft, pale yellow base that is as fine as porcelain, and then layering decorations such as decorating, coloring, and painting, the resulting product has an elegant, beautiful, and refined texture.

Adachino Potari's recommended care methods and precautions

Understanding of "Utsuwa"
Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, there will be uneven color and shading.
〇Since each piece is painted by hand, the expression may vary.
Depending on the product, small holes, small black spots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, rattles, and distortions may be found due to the manufacturing process.
〇We have processed the product images to make them as close to the actual colors as possible, but the colors and textures may appear different depending on the display screen of your computer or smartphone.
〇In addition to inspection by the manufacturer, kiln, and artist, we only deliver products that have passed final inspection at our store.
*Product photos are sample shots, so the items you receive may not be identical in every detail.
*We do not accept returns or exchanges due to customer convenience. Please understand this before purchasing.
We hope you enjoy the unique "flavor" and "interestingness" of handmade products that you won't find in mass-produced products from factories!
