Facing nature and embracing it

The faint red mottled "fire color" is created by firing in a traditional wood-fired, climbing kiln. The appearance of this color changes depending on where the fire hits inside the kiln, making each piece unique. This is a sight that is hard to find in electric, gas, or kerosene kilns. The warm, deep texture that can only be achieved by firing in a natural environment is what makes it so appealing.

Kawajiri Pottery's Sugar Jar, S-Shaped

The color and texture of the firing, unique to climbing kilns, which prioritize flavor over efficiency, deepens the more you use it, developing a unique look and feel. The warmth of the clay, born from the time and effort spent on it, is palpable. Because it is something you will keep close to you every day, you want to choose something that has been carefully made, and this is the piece that will satisfy that desire.

Kawajiri Pottery's Sugar Jar, S-Shaped

The sugar jar has a glazed interior, which allows excess moisture to pass through it smoothly. It's perfect for storing sugar, and since it's small enough to fit in the refrigerator, you can even store preserved foods like pickled plums, scallions, and fresh ginger in it. And then serve it straight to the dinner table. This small, glazed jar beautifully combines a simple appearance with practicality, making it a beautiful and functional piece.

When you open the lid in the morning light, the smooth salt and soft sugar will be waiting for today's dish. It's these small moments that make you feel just a little more special.

Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, size, thickness, weight, and uneven glaze. Furthermore, because they are fired in a traditional climbing kiln, the degree of fire from the wood fire can have a significant impact on the quality of each piece, resulting in differences in the color of the piece, pinholes, iron powder (black spots), and other characteristics. Please rest assured that this does not affect their use. Enjoy the unique expressions that only a handmade piece can offer. While you cannot choose which item you will receive, we hope you will look forward to receiving it. If you have any concerns, please contact us before shipping and we will email you a photo.

Recommended care methods and precautions from Kawajiri Porcelain Factory
* If you seal the porosity before use (by boiling it in rice water for 10-20 minutes), you can use it without any problems such as stains.

〇 Storing oily or dark colored items in the container for a long period of time may cause stains, so please wash it as soon as possible after use.
〇You can use a dishwasher, but please be aware that high water pressure and rattling of dishes against each other may cause scratches.

Understanding of "Utsuwa"
Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, there will be uneven color and shading.
〇Since each piece is painted by hand, the expression may vary.
Depending on the product, small holes, small black spots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, rattles, and distortions may be found due to the manufacturing process.
〇We have processed the product images to make them as close to the actual colors as possible, but the colors and textures may appear different depending on the display screen of your computer or smartphone.
〇In addition to inspection by the manufacturer, kiln, and artist, we only deliver products that have passed final inspection at our store.
*Product photos are sample shots, so the items you receive may not be identical in every detail.
*We do not accept returns or exchanges due to customer convenience. Please understand this before purchasing.
We hope you enjoy the unique "flavor" and "interestingness" of handmade products that you won't find in mass-produced products from factories!
