Little Stories for Everyday Life
These charming vessels boast a cheerful aesthetic, as if plucked from a picture book. Animals and plants, seemingly ready to spring to life, are vibrantly depicted across the entire surface of each piece, warming your heart just by looking at them. Each piece possesses a unique charm, showcasing the endearing qualities of handcrafted work.
All the designs are drawn freehand. Cherishing their inherent irregularities, the artist independently arrived at the ancient "kakiotoshi" (sgraffito) technique without knowing its name, refining it into their unique expressive style. The warmth of this handcrafted process imbues each piece with its own distinct character, creating a profound and rich texture.
After experimenting with various clays, the artist selected Mashiko clay, which provides the desired texture. White clay, black clay, and blended clays are used strategically according to the image of each piece, resulting in gentle and profound expressions. Despite their rustic appearance, the pieces are crafted to be remarkably thin and light, surprising you with their lightness the moment you pick them up. In addition to their everyday usability, they are also conveniently microwave-safe for warming, making them an added pleasure to use.
From serving your favorite snacks to everyday breakfasts and tea times, these vessels transform ordinary moments into something a little more special. You'll find yourself reaching for them more often, making them cherished companions in your daily life.
As each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, thickness, size, weight, glaze unevenness/pooling, stone inclusions, slight wobbles, and subtle variations in patterns and designs. Additionally, some pieces may show differences in glaze application, crazing, pinholes, or iron spots (black dots), but these do not affect usability. Please enjoy these as unique characteristics of handmade craftsmanship. We cannot accommodate requests for specific pieces, but we hope you look forward to receiving yours.
