Scraping technique
The technique is called " scraping ," in which a decorative coating is applied to the surface of the vessel, and then a pattern is carved into it with a needle-like tool . This is a very time-consuming and labor-intensive process, but it results in a warm and unique texture.
A touching Japanese charm
The colors, shapes, and patterns of these dishes are somehow nostalgic and have a mysterious charm that soothes the soul. The indigo color, which resembles ink, and the patterns of animals, plants, and flowers that come out of picture books of Japanese folk tales make you feel comfortable.
Sneaky monkey
The monkey pattern evokes a nostalgic feeling, reminiscent of a scene from a Japanese folk tale. It has a smooth and gentle texture. The three-dimensional pattern and fading that can only be achieved by scraping off the paper give it a warm, handcrafted feel.
Makes the dining table more colorful and fun
The calm design of the plants and flowers and the design of the mischievous monkey trying to steal an orange are just the right balance, so it's not only suitable as a side dish plate, but also as a plate for Japanese sweets and green tea.
Because each piece is handmade, there are individual differences in color, shape, size, thickness, weight, uneven glaze, glaze pools, shrinkage, and subtle differences in patterns and designs. In addition, there may be differences in the amount of glaze applied, light and dark patterns due to the scraping technique, pinholes, iron powder (black spots), blotches, and stone chips, but these do not affect the use of the product. Please enjoy the unique expressions that can only be achieved by handmade products. You cannot choose which item you will receive, but we hope you will look forward to receiving it. If you are interested, please contact us before shipping and we will email you a photo separately.

Recommended care methods and precautions from Naoko Yoshimura |
*Because it is semi-porcelain, there is no need to seal the pores. We recommend sealing the pores of cups, as this will prevent them from becoming discolored. *Please refrain from using the microwave if the dish has gold or silver decoration. |
Understanding of "Utsuwa" |
*Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, there will be uneven color and shading. *Each piece is hand painted, so the expression may vary. Depending on the product, small holes, small black spots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, rattling, and distortions may be found due to the manufacturing process. *We process the product images to make them as close to the actual colors as possible, but the colors and textures may appear different depending on the display screen of your computer or smartphone. *In addition to inspection by the manufacturer, kiln, and artist, we only deliver products that have passed final inspection at our store. *The product photos are sample shots, so the items you receive will not be identical in every detail. * We do not accept returns or exchanges due to customer convenience. Please understand and agree before making a purchase. We hope you enjoy the unique "flavor" and "interestingness" that can only come from something handmade, not mass-produced in a factory! |
