The overlapping of tradition and modern sensibilities

Tobe clay contains a lot of iron. Four types of clay are used: white clay, rough clay, red clay, and ordinary clay. He carefully considers the texture and atmosphere that comes from this clay and creates his pottery every day.

Satsukigama's Ochazuke tea bowl, gosu iron circle

The three main techniques used for shaping are potter's wheel, tatara, and moulding. The tasteful designs, patterns, and colours are inspired by old Japanese patterns as well as textiles and tiles from overseas. The good old Tobe ware style and modern essence are well balanced and fascinating.

Satsukigama's Ochazuke tea bowl, gosu iron circle

Each piece is made differently depending on how the flame hits it in the kiln. The Gosu Tetsumaru Ochazuke bowl has a unique look and is the perfect size for udon, soba, and small rice bowls.

Satsukigama's Ochazuke tea bowl, gosu iron circle

This tea bowl is made from Akato clay, which is not considered suitable for making white porcelain Tobe ware. Because it is rich in iron, the iron powder that appears on the surface gives it a warmth similar to that of earthenware.

Tableware from Tobe-yaki Satsukigama

Because each piece is handmade, there may be individual differences in color, shape, thickness, size, weight, uneven glaze, glaze pools, stone cracks, slight rattling, patterns, and other aspects. There may also be differences in the amount of glaze applied, crazing, pinholes, or iron powder (black spots), but this does not affect the use of the piece. Please enjoy the unique expressions that can only be achieved through handmade items. You cannot choose which item you will receive, but we hope you will look forward to receiving it. If you are interested, please contact us before shipping and we will email you a photo separately, so please feel free to contact us.

Recommended maintenance methods and precautions from Satsukigama
* Because it is porcelain clay, it does not absorb moisture, so there is no need to seal it.
* Avoid rapid cooling or heating. For example, taking it out of the microwave and immediately placing it in a cold sink.

Understanding of "Utsuwa"
*Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in color, shape, pattern, size, thickness, weight, etc. Also, even with the same glaze and clay, there will be uneven color and shading.
*Each piece is hand painted, so the expression may vary.
Depending on the product, small holes, small black spots, scratches, protrusions, pinholes, rattling, and distortions may be found due to the manufacturing process.
*We process the product images to make them as close to the actual colors as possible, but the colors and textures may appear different depending on the display screen of your computer or smartphone.
*In addition to inspection by the manufacturer, kiln, and artist, we only deliver products that have passed final inspection at our store.
*The product photos are sample shots, so the items you receive will not be identical in every detail.
* We do not accept returns or exchanges due to customer convenience. Please understand and agree before making a purchase.
We hope you enjoy the unique "flavor" and "interestingness" that can only come from something handmade, not mass-produced in a factory!
